There are many books on the life and times of psychic mediums, from the pioneers of the early 20th Century, to the popular Doris Stokes in the 1980s to modern day mediums. Everybody's mediumship journey is different - you have folk who have seen spirits since they were toddlers, people who arrived at mediumship after a bereavement, and interestingly, at least three mediums whose abilities became sharper after their physical sight was affected in some way (Charlie Kelly, Dominic Boag and Darren Brittain).
So I haven't read all the books on mediums and mediumship. And there are some books which are very good yet are not included here. This list is intended for developing mediums, because they offer some kind of useful, practical information about unfolding your own mediumship as well as well written life stories.

Magician To Mystic - a Mediumistic Path to a Spiritual Life by Brian Robertson and Simon James Mediumship isn't (or shouldn't) be a party trick or 'career choice'. Mediums are here to serve the spirit world, and offer evidence that life is eternal. This book opens the door to a deeper understanding of the mystical and spiritual roots of mediumship and how we can approach the work of the spirit world in a more heart-centred way. The authors use their experience of both mysticism and psychology to take us on a journey from beginning to eternity.

The Spirit World in Plain English by Glyn Edwards and Santoshan One of the most inspirational modern mediums, Glyn Edwards, who was credited with the 'sitting in the power' method of making a connection to spirit has an easy way of explaining the 'mechanics' of mediumship and making them accessible to all. The Spiritualists National Union recommend this book as 'the bible for developing mediums'

3. From Innocence to Inner Sense by Darren Brittain I hadn't heard about Darren before I read his book, but he is known as one of the UK's most accurate mediums. The first half of this book documents how he came to the world of mediumship as a teenager who saw auras and then joined a Spiritualist church. The second half of this book is devoted to Darren's advice for mediumship unfoldment. This was the first time I had read about what a connection to spirit actually feels like (racing or thudding heart, heat or cold sensations or feelings of love). It really helped me understand that I wasn't alone in the ways I had experienced spirit. It's a very easy read and full of helpful information.
