One of the things I was curious about when I started my discovery of the world of mediumship was the 'spiritual assessment'.
This is a type of psychic reading offered by trained mediums (likely tutors or former tutors of the Spiritualists' National Union) to those who are interested in seeing whether they have any latent ability for mediumship themselves.
The reader is said to psychically view the sitter's history of spirit awareness (did you sense a presence as a child), look at where you are currently in your mediumship development and offer advice on what to do next to advance.
I have had not one, but two (just to make sure) spiritual assessments, and I can conclude - no, you probably don't need one.
The first assessment was very expensive (£110) as it was done by a very experienced and well known medium. The appointment was just half an hour, and the medium didn't mention any interesting spirit contact I might have had as a child, or in fact in the present time. They did say that they had read my aura and that I 'have the colours for spirit communication and also for healing'. They then proceeded to invite me to their development groups (not free of charge). The advice given to me was to join a development circle at a local spiritual church, or read some books. Well you don't have to be psychic to pass on that kind of information!
The second assessment I had was also with an experienced medium but it cost the price of a regular reading. This reader also said that I had the 'potential to be an evidential medium' and that they saw me working on platform in the future. "But I feel like you just want to make some money, be able to leave your job quickly and set up as a medium," they said. "I don't want to say you're greedy..."
That did make me bristle, as I feel my 'quest' to discover more about the sixth sense is much more of a personal spiritual journey than a public one, I have no intention whatsoever to be standing on a platform, plus I enjoy the job I have at the moment. This medium also offers tutoring, and I wonder if readers giving spiritual assessments say all their clients have potential to be mediums. I mean, I don't want to say they're greedy...
So my advice is, when it comes to spiritual assessments, keep your money and save your time. If you do have mediumship abilities, they will most likely become evident (or not) as you progress on your own journey of development.
