What's it like: a workshop on meeting your spirit guide

This week, I attended an online workshop with professional medium Charlie Kelly, with the intention that we would meet our spirit guides. Charlie began by saying that his guide was 'just a lady, in a cardigan, who likes drinking tea' and he wasn't sure that everyone really had an Egyptian Pharaoh or wise elder as a spirit guide. "Don't worry if you don't see anyone famous in this class, I mean, your guide might just be a smelly old man, and that's OK."

I liked this refreshing attitude to seeing your guide - after all, as Charlie explained, the guides appearance is only to benefit us, they appear to us as someone who we might resonate with or feel comfortable with. Of course people may see archetypal monks or Native American Indians because that's what they associate with spirit guides. (One of mine is a young person who dresses like a goth which I wasn't expecting).

Charlie then led the class in his famous 'corridor of doors' meditation (which I won't go into too much detail about). We were encouraged to use our psychic senses to explore different ideas, feelings and information. In one room off the corridor, there were two chairs, and we were told to sit in one chair and we would be joined by another person. This person was our guide.

I wasn't sure who would turn up, but in the end it was the goth boy. They didn't want to impart any wise advice to me, but they did want to play cards. It felt like the meditation had just started, when we were called back to 'real life'. It had been 23 minutes long!

Other students had many questions about what they had experienced in the exercise, and Charlie reassured them it was 'normal'.

"You'll probably think you're making it up as well," he said. "But you have come to this class to work, and the spirit world will be aware, so it won't just be something you made up".

Overall, it was an interesting class (and value for money as well at £15). I find it is always beneficial to practice guided meditations as it strengthens the imagination, and then it's easier to understand what information is coming from you inventing a scenario in your mind, and what is from your psychic senses. A guided meditation is the best way to 'meet your guide' and there are lots available on YouTube. I will do a top ten of meditations in a post soon.
