The word 'psychic' these days seems to be synonymous with grifters and fakers, people who believe setting up as a seer is a get rich quick scheme or way to be Tiktok famous. But frankly, that is offensive to people who use their psychic abilities for higher purposes.
In ancient Greece, the 'psyche' was viewed as the 'free-soul' - the spirit of humankind which travelled in dreams or death, and it was thought of as immortal. In modern times this has been adapted to become the belief that to be 'psychic' is to work on an ethereal or soul level - in other words, "relating to faculties or phenomena that are apparently inexplicable by natural laws". But why is it seen as a dirty word? With most people choosing to say they are 'intuitive' instead of psychic?
As with any community, there are always some people who give others a bad name. Most psychics are operating under an unspoken code of ethics and would not claim to be able to 'get your ex back' or influence any life outcome. This is why most people with clairvoyant abilities or psychic powers would still claim to be intuitive rather than psychic, to distance themselves from the scam artists.
But I want to reclaim the word psychic as a spiritual practice. If I can read information from your energy and aura then that is surely evidence of the 'one consciousness', and not just a fun way of fortune telling.
When I am receiving that information about another person, it is on a soul-to-soul level, which is something we are all capable of (hence 'gut feeling' or 'intuition'). The fact that human awareness can be used beyond the five traditional senses is surely an indication that we are connected to the universe beyond mind and body. Why not call it by its name?
So fellow psychics, let us not be afraid to reclaim this word, this practice as a healing one, a method of blending souls, of spiritual communion while in our human reality. Let us take back 'psychic' from the people who misuse it, and reclaim it as a spiritual practice.
